Slum and Rural Health Initiative Network (SRHIN) is seeking a skilled and innovative Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engineer to develop AI-powered solutions that process, analyze, and understand human language for health research, digital health applications, and data-driven initiatives. Job Title: Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engineer
Location: Ibadan, Oyo
Role Overview
- Design and develop natural language processing solutions to support SRHIN’s data analysis, research, and digital health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and fine-tune NLP models for text classification, sentiment analysis, information extraction, and related tasks.
- Pre-process and analyse large volumes of unstructured text data (e.g. survey responses, health records, community feedback).
- Collaborate with the research team to apply NLP techniques to health and social research questions.
- Evaluate and improve model performance and accuracy.
- Document methodologies and maintain reproducible workflows.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in NLP or related machine learning work.
- Proficiency in Python and NLP libraries/frameworks (e.g. spaCy, NLTK, Hugging Face Transformers).
- Strong understanding of language modelling and text data pipelines.
- Experience applying NLP in health or social science contexts is an advantage.
