HBM Nigeria Plc: Market Cap, Why Investors Are Buying, and the Long-Term Outlook

HBM Nigeria Plc (NGX: HBMNG), formerly Lafarge Africa Plc (old ticker WAPCO), is a leading Nigerian cement and building solutions company. It was acquired by China’s Huaxin Building Materials Group (majority stake, deal valued around $1 billion, completed in 2025) and officially rebranded in 2026.

It manufactures and sells cement, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, and related products. Plants include operations in Ogun (Ewekoro, Sagamu), Gombe (Ashaka), and Cross River (Mfamosing), with an installed capacity of about 10.5 million tonnes per annum before ongoing expansions. The company has deep local roots (origins dating to 1959 as West African Portland Cement) and is listed on the Premium Board of the Nigerian Exchange.

As of early September 2026 data, market capitalisation stands in the range of roughly ₦5.6–5.8 trillion (around $4 billion USD depending on exchange rates), based on a share price near ₦350–357 and approximately 16.11 billion shares outstanding.
