Job Summary
- We are seeking qualified, detail-oriented, and analytical professionals to join our team as Insurance Underwriting Officers.
- The successful candidates will be responsible for evaluating insurance applications, assessing risks, determining appropriate coverage and pricing, and ensuring underwriting decisions align with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- The ideal candidates will play a key role in supporting the growth and sustainability of our microinsurance portfolio by providing affordable and accessible insurance solutions to low-income individuals, microenterprises, cooperatives, and underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess insurance applications in line with established underwriting guidelines and company policies.
- Analyze risk exposures and determine appropriate coverage, policy terms, conditions, and premium rates.
- Evaluate underwriting information and make sound decisions to ensure portfolio profitability and sustainability.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records, documentation, and reports.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging risk trends.
- Liaise with agents, brokers, partners, and other stakeholders to facilitate efficient underwriting processes and service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal controls relating to microinsurance operations.
- Provide technical underwriting support to sales and operations teams.
- Contribute to product development initiatives and financial inclusion programs targeted at underserved markets.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing underwriting efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 2–3 years’ relevant experience in insurance underwriting, preferably within the microinsurance sector.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment techniques, and insurance operations.
- Good understanding of microinsurance products, regulatory requirements, and industry practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting management systems.
- Professional certification such as ACIIN or equivalent will be an added advantage.
